When anime is adapted, it can work one of two ways, and this adaptation isn’t the strongest, but it has an interesting story. The concept of being alchemists is explained and that’s the most intriguing aspect of this trilogy.

Official Premise: Two alchemist brothers go on a quest for the Philosopher’s Stone after an attempt to revive their dead mother goes horribly wrong.

In this sequel, Edward Elric goes through the superhero phase of being at his weakest, along with his brother. While they try to protect themselves, there are other alchemists that come from the shadows and attack them.

Official Premise: When a mysterious figure starts to target State Alchemists for their sins against God, Alchemist Edward Elric and his brother Alphonse are at their most vulnerable. Meanwhile the hormunculi begin to unveil themselves once again.

In this final installment, the brothers are faced with this supernatural creature that threatens the entire world as they know it. They take what they’ve learned on their journey and about each other in order to defeat it.

Halloween is always a good time to have some fantastical creatures creep through the veil. But the important thing here is that a teenage girl ends up bonding with her father again out of fear for what’s to come next.

Official Premise: A teenage girl, who accidentally releases an ancient and mischievous spirit on Halloween which causes decorations to come alive and wreak havoc, must team up with the last person she’d want to in order to save their town – her father.

College students find themselves in weird situations all the time, and when one student becomes a chauffeur for the night, he ends up in some hot water with two strangers.

Official Premise: A college student moonlighting as a chauffeur picks up two mysterious women fro a night of party-hopping across LA. But when he uncovers their bloodthirsty intentions – and their dangerous, shadowy underworld – he must fight to stay alive.

This is the perfect film to watch with the whole family as it dabbles into the horror elements while crafting a fantastical world. It’s fun, and entertaining and has a great performance by Krysten Ritter.

Official Premise: Alex, a boy possessed with scary stories, is imprisoned by an evil young witch in her contemporary New York City apartment.

This is a situational fantasy film that takes the lore of a troll and builds it into the scenic landscape outside of Norway. These people have to journey back without interrupting the peace of the Troll, but things go south.

Official Premise: Deep in the Dovre mountain, something gigantic wakes up after a thousand years in captivity. The creature destroys everything in its path and quickly approaches Oslo.

This is considered an under-appreciated Netflix fantasy film because of the outlandish concept. It’s actually an incredibly grounded film that explores relevant social commentary on life in general through the police force.

When the world is cruel to young Kat, she turns to her connection with the underworld to make sense of her life. The two brothers end up taking advantage of her curiosity to return to the world they once knew.

Official Premise: Two scheming demon brothers, Wendell and Wild, enlist the aid of 13-year-old Kat Elliot to summon them to the Land of the Living.

You can live your life trying to reach your goals without having anyone stand in your way. However, when your dream is in reach, there can be many obstacles that can stand in your way, which is what happens with Qing Ming in this film.

Official Premise: Qing Ming, the Yin-Yang Master, took his master’s last wish and went to the Capital Tiandu City to attend the heaven ceremony.

Cast: Mark Chao, Allen Deng, Ziwen Wang

IMDB Rating: 6.4

Unfortunately, when this was released, The Jungle Book by Jon Favreau was already the masterpiece that it was. Sadly, this flew under the radar, but it is still such a strong adaptation. The special effects and voice acting were exceptionally well done, and it deserves more appreciation.

Official Premise: A human child raised by wolves must face off against a menacing tiger named Shere Khan, as well as his own origins.

Objectively, this is one of the best-animated features that Netflix has ever produced, and it’s because of the immaculate detail of the stop-motion animation. It’s gorgeous, fluid, and tells the most human story about grief that can resonate with anyone.

Official Premise: A father’s wish magically brings a wooden boy to life in Italy, giving him a chance to care for the child.
