Around the state, film crews turn downtowns and small businesses turn into winter wonderlands while shooting holiday movies. The state has had a recent spike in holiday movies filmed within Connecticut, especially last year with the filming of a number of Hallmark holiday movies.
This year has also been another major year for filming in Connecticut with the likes of Netflix’s “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone,” “The Good Nurse” starring Eddie Redmayne and Jessica Chastain and “Candlewood,” which is based on the urban legends surrounding the area of New Milford, all filming in the state this year.
Two holiday movies that filmed in Connecticut this year are premiering this week ahead of the upcoming holiday celebrations: Netflix’s “The Noel Diary” and Lifetime’s “The 12 Days of Christmas Eve.” “The Noel Diary” will begin streaming on Nov. 24 while “The 12 Days of Christmas Eve” will premiere on Lifetime on Nov. 26.

Kelsey Grammer filming scenes for “The 12 Days of Christmas Eve” at Mohegan Sun on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2022.
Starring the duo of Kelsey Grammer (“Frasier,” “Cheers”) and his daughter, Spencer Grammer (“Rick & Morty,” “As the World Turns”), “The 12 Days of Christmas Eve” follows a down-on-his-luck father as he’s given 12 chances to get his life back together and find what the true meaning of Christmas is.
This year, Grammer was spotted throughout Connecticut filming scenes for the movie, including at the Charter Oak Credit Union in Waterford as well as Mohegan Sun.
“Kelsey Grammer was a pleasure to work with as was the full production team with Synthetic Cinema International. The scenes that they shot for this upcoming movie largely took place at Aspire – which is a section of luxury hotel floors atop Mohegan Sun’s Sky Tower,” said George Galinsky, SVP of Marketing Communications for Mohegan Sun. “Following a full day of shooting, Kelsey enjoyed a nice intimate night out at Mohegan Sun’s popular TAO Asian Bistro & Lounge. It was certainly a memorable day hosting one of the most recognizable and talented actors of our generation.”

Grammer is perhaps most famous for his portrayal of Dr. Frasier Crane, a psychiatrist who can solve everyone’s issues except his own in both “Cheers” and its spin-off show, “Frasier.” For his performance of the character, Grammer earned four Emmy awards, two Golden Globes and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
“Kelsey and our entire production team had a great time utilizing Mohegan Sun as a location. The penthouse set was visually amazing, and the casino and resort support services were 100% supportive,” said Andrew Gernhard of Synthetic Cinema International, a Rocky Hill-based production company that is working on the movie. “After we wrapped, I know much of the cast and crew enjoyed various restaurants across Mohegan Sun as a great way to end the day and unwind. Synthetic Cinema International is hoping to have more projects at Mohegan Sun in the future.”
“The 12 Days of Christmas Eve” will premiere on Lifetime on Nov. 26.

The movie written and directed by Charles Shyer, the mastermind behind “Father of the Bride,” “Smokey and the Bandit” and “The Parent Trap.” The movie also stars Justin Hartley (”This is Us”), Bonnie Bedelia (“Parenthood”) and Treat Williams (“Everwood”).
