Pathaan movie release, movie review LIVE UPDATES: Shah Rukh Khan is returning to the screens after four long years with Siddharth Anand’s Pathaan. Also starring Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Dimple Kapadia and Ashutosh Rana, the film is a part of YRF’s spy universe. Salman Khan is expected to have an extended cameo in the film and Shah Rukh had previously confirmed that the two actors shot together for the Siddharth Anand film. It is yet to be seen if Hrithik Roshan will also appear in a cameo in the film as War also belongs to the same universe as Tiger and Pathaan.
In Pathaan, Shah Rukh Khan plays a RAW agent who has been on a sabbatical for a while but returns to duty after John Abraham’s Jim poses a threat to the nation. The trailer promised an action packed film with Shah Rukh at its centre.
Before the trailer, YRF released the first song of the ‘Besharam Rang’ which ignited a lot of controversy. The colours of SRK and Deepika’s costumes in the song had many political outfits opposing the release of the film unless the makers made changes to the music video. The makers then released the dance number, and also the theme song of the film ‘Jhoome Jo Pathaan’.
Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan is releasing on a Wednesday but it is expected that the film will see a rise in footfalls the next day because of Republic Day.
“MOUNTAINOUS BLOCKBUSTER. STYLE – SUBSTANCE – PATRIOTISM #Pathaan has it all. SUPERB ACTION + TWISTS & THRILLS gives Wholesome Entertainment. #SRK BLOW UP THE SCREEN with his Intensity & Charm. LAST 20 Mins & SALMAN KHAN Cameo creates MASS HYSTERIA,” tweeted trade analyst Sumit Kadel in his review of Pathaan.
Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted out his review of Pathaan as he shared on Twitter, “#OneWordReview…#Pathaan: BLOCKBUSTER. #Pathaan has it all: Star power, style, scale, songs, soul, substance and surprises… And, most importantly, #SRK, who’s back with a vengeance… Will be the first #Blockbuster of 2023. #PathaanReview.”
Pathaan has put up an admit of around 5.6 lakh at the national multiplex chains, which currently makes it the second highest film in terms of admits recorded at theatres of PVR, Inox and Cinepolis, reported Box Office India.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Pathaan is expected to hit the Rs 50 crore mark on opening day alone, which would put it in touching distance of the day one figures posted by Hrithik Roshan-starrer War (Rs 53.3 crore), Aamir Khan’s Thugs of Hindostan (Rs 52 crore) and the Hindi dub version of the Kannada film KGF: Chapter 2 (Rs 53.9 crore).
Protests have been ongoing against the screening of Pathaan in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, as a section of Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s activists were heard chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and the Hanuman Chalisa outside theatres.
Posters of the film Pathaan was torn and burnt outside a cinema hall in Bihar’s Bhagalpur on Tuesday, a day before its release. Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan was to be screened in Bhagalpur’s Deepprabha cinema hall. The youth of Hindu organizations tore the posters in the cinema hall and set it on fire, raising slogans of ‘Film Chalega Hall Jalega’.
Film trade analyst Sumit Kadel tweeted his one-line review of Pathaan as he shared,”#Pathaan Interval – VERY GOOD.. Non Stop Action & Entertainment.” Pathaan stars Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in the lead roles.
“No spoilers, no images, no videos please. Please support the battle against piracy and report any accounts that post any such thing,” tweeted composer Vishal Dadlani, who has scored the music for SRK’s Pathaan.

Now 2nd HIGHEST FILM… 5,21,000 tickets sold at national chains. #Pathaan https://t.co/Z5dEIPCt0m
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared that Pathaan has sold over 5,21,000 tickets at national chains.
Producers Guild of India CEO Nitin Tej Ahuja shared on Twitter, “With #Pathaan all set to storm screens worldwide, here’s wishing the team the very best. May it herald a new, brighter era not just for them, but also the Indian box office and film industry!”
Pathaan is directed by Siddharth Anand, who was appreciated for making the 2019 film War starring Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff. The director had previously made films like Bang Bang!, Anjaana Anjaani, Bachna Ae Haseeno, Ta Ra Rum Pum and Salaam Namaste. Siddharth had earlier spoken about casting John Abraham as the villain in the film. “For Pathaan to be larger than life, we needed to have a towering villain who is equally larger than life. We wanted someone who is ruthless and suave, and commands an electric presence on screen. So, the villain in Pathaan was written keeping John Abraham in mind,” he said in a statement.
He added, “He (John) was our first and only choice, and we were certain that we wanted a villain that the audience would cherish forever. I am delighted to see the response that people have showered on John as he takes on Shah Rukh Khan in a blood-soaked, adrenaline-pumping rivalry that will be epic in every sense possible. John is the perfect opposite of Pathaan on screen and we have made their rivalry look deliciously edge of the seat. It will be one hell of a thrilling showdown.”
