2022 has been a hotbed for new movies. From the long-awaited Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and The Batman to horror reboots like Scream, 2022 looks to continue its success with many more new films. With June closely approaching — and the midway point of 2022 — films will be battling for the title of “The Best Film of 2022”. A few of the June releases can certainly be contenders for that title. Jurassic World: Dominion starts off the June releases on the 10th, while the Elvis Presley biopic Elvis and Ethan Hawke’s highly anticipated horror film The Black Phone close out the month on the 24th.
The animated Toy Story anticipated sci-fi spinoff Lightyear drops on the 17th, with Chris Evans voicing Buzz. This highly anticipated Pixar film expects to draw big crowds thanks to the storyline and the cast. Summer 2022 looks to start off strong with these films. If you're looking for something fun to do this June, we highly recommend going to theaters to watch one of the new and exciting films on this list.
The Jurassic Park and Jurassic World franchises come together in what could be the last film for a while. Jurassic World Dominion drops on June 10, bringing with it a few familiar faces from Jurassic Park films. Sam Neill, Jeff Goldbloom, and Laura Dern team up with Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt in the epic conclusion of the franchise.
Jurassic World Dominion takes place in a world where dinosaurs and humans are battling it out for the top of the food chain. After Massie released the dinosaurs at the end of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, humans are finding that life as they knew it will never be the same. Dominion picks up four years after these events and will follow our heroes as they battle the upcoming doomsday and as they try to rescue Blue's baby raptor from its captors.

Disney Pixar's newest addition to the Toy Story franchise comes with the spinoff story about Buzz Lightyear. Chris Evans will voice the beloved toy in Buzz's long-awaited solo film, Lightyear, taking him to infinity and beyond.
The film opens with Buzz setting off on a hyperspeed test flight when he finds himself 62 years in the future where robots now inhabit their planet. Keke Palmer will voice Buzz's companion, Izzy Hawthorne, the granddaughter of his old friend, Captain Alisha Hawthorne. She has put together a ragtag team to destroy the alien ship and save the planet. With only a 38% chance of survival, Buzz and the team set out to beat the odds.
Based on a short story by Joe Hill, The Black Phone is a must-see ghost/horror film. The film first premiered at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas in September 2021. Critics praised the film for the storyline and Ethan Hawke's performance. Indeed, Deadline called the film a "Blumhouse best."
The Black Phone will star Hawke as The Grabber aka the main antagonist. The Grabber is notorious for "grabbing" children who have spoken his name aloud. When a student, Finney, is abducted, his sister starts having dreams about her missing brother and where he is being held. At the same time, Finney wakes up in a soundproofed basement with a disconnected black phone hanging on the wall. He soon begins to realize that he can communicate with the Grabber's previous victims via the phone. They help Finney achieve what they were unable to do: escape the masked man.

Set to release the same day as The Black Phone is the Elvis Presley biopic, Elvis. Critics have already seen the film, saying that while the film is lacking in terms of script, Austin Butler's performance as Elvis makes up for the shortcomings.
Alongside Tom Hanks' Colonel Tom Parker, the film outlines Elvis' journey through stardom and the financial abuser who controlled him. From the trailers alone, Butler's transformation into the star is a believable representation down to the hip-shaking moves. Hanks' character is a greasy-looking man who uses Elvis to elevate himself. The film will go into the toxic relationship between the two and Elvis' rise to popularity.
