With comedy being such a beloved genre in the movie industry, it’s always nice to look back at the favorites to see which ones are turning ten in 2022
Comedy may be subjective, which is why 2012 was a pretty decent year for that genre. 2012 saw plenty of great comedy movies, ranging from different age groups and styles of hilarity. The best comedy movies that turned 10 in 2022 are entirely dependent on the standards of the audience member, as everyone enjoys a different style of jokes and characters.
There are plenty of great comedy movies for solo viewers, families, and everything in between. 2012 did a decent job with comedy, with some movies remaining somewhat iconic to date, with an often resurgence in memes from certain movies.
It’s almost impossible to not be able to distinguish Wes Anderson’s style. Visually, the films are a palette cleanser. Even the dialogue is Anderson, and Moonrise Kingdom is filled with that colorful, asymmetrical charm. Moonrise Kingdom features the style that audiences love from Anderson, whilst injecting a new and refreshing love story into the mix.
The story of Moonrise Kingdom follows Sam and Suzy, two children that fall in love and decide to run away together to a secluded cove. The entire town dedicates itself to a search for the children, inducing wild antics, hilarity, and adorability.
The Madagascar franchise has been around the world, and the characters have seen more than a fair share outside of a zoo. Madagascar won fans over with its fun animal characters and talented voice cast, and the Penguins of Madagascar even ended up getting their spin-off for a very good reason. Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted is the third film in the franchise, and proves these animals haven’t lost their charm.
The plot for Madagascar 3 involves the beloved characters attempting to get back home, all the while they are being hunted by Animal Control. The film follows the escapades of Alex, Marty, Gloria, and Mellman as they attempt to disguise themselves in a traveling circus, and avoid the cunning Capitaine Chantel DuBois.
There isn’t a premise as bizarre and continuous as the Men in Black franchise. Hunting aliens or keeping them protected under a government scheme feels like a funny satire. Until time travel is added to the mix. Will Smith lets his talents shine as Agent J, whilst Tommy Lee Jones is traded in for a younger version of Agent K, played wonderfully and respectfully by Josh Brolin.
In Men in Black 3, Agent J must hunt through time to find Boris, a highly dangerous alien criminal who has made his way back in time to kill a young Agent K, the very man that put him in prison in the first place. The film follows the relationship between an experienced Agent J, and a stern and unfamiliar Agent K.
Although The Watch often gets a bad report, it isn’t a half-bad comedy. The cast is studded with Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, and Richard Ayoade, four comedy professionals that share a decent level of chemistry. There are a lot of jokes that hit in The Watch, and it’s worth the viewing.
Forming a neighborhood watch is an often-noble act for a community. However, Evan and his neighbors soon find that their watch extends past just protecting the neighborhood from mundane activities and pranks, as an alien murderer has found itself in the small suburban town.
Thanks to Wreck-It-Ralph smashing the box office on video game movies, audiences received more depictions of the characters they love. Wreck-It-Ralph is a love letter to retro gaming and features a stellar cast with a colorful design. The themes in Wreck-It-Ralph are pretty wholesome, and there are plenty of jokes to hit.
After Ralph becomes tired of playing the bad guy in his titular video game, he decides to abandon his arcade machine in search of something more. Ralph wants to be a video game hero, but in his quest, he accidentally unleashes an enemy that threatens the entire arcade.
Back in the 2010s, Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis were a potential match made in heaven. The two actors featured prominently in their comedy movies and finally came head-to-head to fight for the crown of laughter in 2012’s The Campaign. This American political satire comedy hits the mark in more than one way.
As political rivals, Cam Brady and Marty Huggins are in a direct race, running for the same seat. The two will stop at nothing to outdo each other and make the other look bad in front of potential voters. Their campaign is a hilarious bout of competitiveness and slander.
Few comedies have been able to withstand the test of time like 21 Jump Street. This action/comedy seems to always appear in memes across the internet, thanks in part to the wonderful duo of Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum. It seems that everyone in the film is having a blast, and it’s infectious from the cast and crew to the audience.
To bust a drug ring, and put an end to the extremely dangerous synthetic drug problem appearing in schools, Schmidt and Jenko must become undercover agents, and fit into a high school. The two soon return to their old ways of the classic nerd and jock tropes, whilst remaining loyal friends, with lots of laughs bound to this duo.
Seth MacFarlane from Family Guy fame leaped out of the 2D animated space and into live-action, without leaving behind his signature humor and Boston voices. Ted is a barrel of laughs, with memorable characters from Seth MacFarlane’s career, and a CGI bear that’ll have fans hollering.
After John wishes that his teddy bear would come to life, he is more than pleased when said wish comes true. Ted follows the aftermath of a boy and his bear, and shows John as a man, sharing an apartment with his teddy bear. The two are the best of friends, and Ted is certainly not ready for their friendship to move on, as John plans to move in with his girlfriend, without his thunder buddy.
